What you’ll learn

1. Introduction to Specialty Coffee

We begin with a tasting and short cupping session to introduce key concepts:

  • What defines specialty coffee?
  • How do origin, altitude, and processing affect flavor?
  • What role does roasting play — and why do we roast lightly?

2. Espresso Theory

A short but precise look at espresso as a method of extraction:

  • Understanding brew ratios and extraction time
  • The impact of grind size, dose, and yield
  • Tasting espresso and identifying over- and under-extraction

3. Dialing In: Grinder & Machine

Hands-on calibration:

  • Adjusting the grinder and learning to "dial in" a coffee
  • Workflow and routine at the espresso machine
  • How to taste and react: calibrating by flavor, not just by numbers

4. Milk Steaming & Basic Latte Art

  • Introduction to milk texture: what’s good milk, and how do we get it?
  • Steaming milk for cappuccinos and flat whites
  • Pouring simple patterns (heart, tulip)

5. Cleaning & Care

  • Daily maintenance routines for home equipment
  • How to keep your gear consistent and clean
